This system sets aside the bottom 50mm (2”) of the
planter as a eservoir using poly core base (or leca)
with capillary wick through to the base of the planter. A combimeter is also placed through this base to the bottom of the planter. This whole area is then covered with capillary matting. The compost is placed on top of the matting and only the gauge of the combimeter is visible at the top. Watering is done through the filler tube. This avoids wet/dry cycles and allows air to circulate under the compost. |

| A well established method of soil irrigation using a PVC tank at the bottom of the planter (or within the compost for taller planters). Watering takes place through the flexible filler/breather hose, and transfers to the compost via the geotextile wick. Following recent product development the original system has been improved by the addition of a fixed free flow filler cap (that can be “badged” with your details.) Non-return lugs stop the filler tube from being pulled up or down and an internal water gauge that can be viewed through the cap. | |||
